Primorsko has more beach than most resorts on Bulgaria’s southern coast, but the beaches are quite different from one another and not every one suits every visitor. Here is a short, honest comparison so you don’t lose half a day working it out.
North Beach — the big one
Almost 900 metres long, with the fullest infrastructure in town: changing rooms, toilets, showers, a medical point, food and drink, a volleyball court and a surf school. It is the busiest beach, and the one where you will find everything you need without going back to the hotel.
Who it suits: people who want facilities close at hand and don’t mind a crowd.
Central Beach — the continuation
Effectively a continuation of North Beach, run the same way and with the same services. The difference is the distance to the centre — from here it is a few minutes on foot.
South Beach — smaller and livelier
Smaller than the other two, but with sand and water of the same quality. This is where the water activities are: banana rides, water bikes, a water slide, boat trips. There are cocktail bars and lifeguards.
Who it suits: groups of friends, and teenagers who get bored lying down.
Perla — the quiet one
About 3 km from town, a former government residence. A small beach surrounded by dense greenery that reaches almost to the water. No rows of umbrellas, no music.
Who it suits: people who come to the sea for calm, and couples.
Arkutino — for the view
Further north, next to the reserve, with some of the best preserved sand dunes in the country. It is beautiful, but it is a place for a walk and photographs rather than a full day with an umbrella and a cool box. Do not walk on the dunes — they are protected.
The short version
- With small children: North or Central — a gentle slope into the water, lifeguards, toilets and food nearby.
- With teenagers: South, for the activities.
- For quiet: Perla.
- For a walk and photographs: Arkutino.
From Hotel Cinema the beach is about 200 metres away, with the seaside park directly opposite us — so the morning question of “which beach today” takes five minutes of walking rather than planning. If you would rather stay in, the rooftop pool looks out over the town and the sea.
